Social Media King Facebook adds ‘Vanish mode’ to Messenger. It disappears messages when seen and the chat is shut.
In a press release, Facebook said it was the perfect way to get along and to share it with closer friends and family without thinking about your chats.”
Facebook told the media that the feature is best suited to cool memories, GIFs, stickers or reviews while you’re sending them, but that you do not want them to hold in your chat history.
To trigger the function, a user has to swipe over the phone in an existing chat thread and he or she will be in disappearing mode.
When the user swipes again, they go back to standard chat. Facebook has added an explainer screen that will pop up when you first swipe. To familiarize your user with the application.
Mashable said that the feature is opt-in, so it has to be accepted by all parties in the chat for its operation.
There are also several privacy features incorporated, for instance if you are being told if you are going to take a screenshot of your chat during vanish mode.
Vanish mode is rolling out slowly to Instagram and Messenger. For now, Messenger in the US and “a handful of other countries” are open, and it will soon be in the EU.
The function is already available in many countries, but will arrive “in the coming weeks” in the United States on Instagram.
