WhatsApp launched messages that had vanished earlier this month. This feature is now available on Android, iOS and web for all WhatsApp users. As the name suggests, once the feature is activated, messages will disappear from chats.
WhatsApp selected a seven-day time limit for messages in chats to disappear. After seven days, any message that is sent in the chat automatically disappears as the feature is turned on.
This function can also be accessed on Android and iOS apps of WhatsApp and on the WhatsApp Web. It works for one-on-one chats and group chats, but the latter are controlled only by admins.
How to turn on disappearing messages on WhatsApp App
- First update the latest version of the app.
- Open any chat, and tap on the contact info.
- Scroll down to find ‘Disappearing Messages’.
- This feature will be disabled by default so you’ll have to turn it on.
- New messages sent to the chat will now disappear after seven days.
When messages are triggered in the chat, It will alert you. This can also be deactivated by the other participant in the conversation. On WhatsApp, there are even more limits on missed messages.
Even after seven days, messages will still vanish if the chat has not been read in the Updates Preview. Quoted messages remain in the chat even after they are gone.
The same applies to forwarded messages that still display the email, though the original chat has vanished.
The app alerts also that chats like taking screenshots can be held in various ways. The deadline seems very long and users are likely to forget that the function is available. The Company says seven days have been selected so that you don’t miss crucial messages.
